Overview
How Players Find Your Club Through Search
A player searches for something like “pickleball courts in Saint Augustine” or “tennis lessons near me.”
Google shows your listing, or a city page that includes your club, in the search results.
The player opens your listing and sees your photos, courts, hours, amenities, upcoming programs, and coaches.
The player books a court, registers for a program, or purchases a membership with your club.
When you update your listing settings in CourtReserve, the public web page updates automatically.
This article covers how your listing appears in web search. To set up what players see on your listing in the CourtReserve mobile app, see How to Make Your Club Stand Out on the CourtReserve Network™.
What Search Engines Show From Your Listing
What Appears | Where It Comes From | Why It Matters for Search |
Page title, for example “Riverside Pickleball Club in Saint Augustine | CourtReserve” | Your club name and city | This is the blue headline players click in Google search results |
Description under the page title | The first sentences of your About text | Tells players what makes your club worth a visit |
Cover photo | The first photo on your listing | This is the preview image when someone shares your link |
Address and map pin | Your organization address | Allows Google to show your club in “near me” and city searches |
Program pages | Your upcoming clinics, open play sessions, leagues, and tournaments | Each program can appear in search results on its own |
Coach profile pages | Instructors with Show on CourtReserve Network turned on | Each coach can appear in search results on their own |
Your sports, courts, amenities, and hours also appear on your listing. To see where each one is set, see How to Make Your Club Stand Out on the CourtReserve Network™.
Each listing also includes structured data. Structured data is information that does not display on the page but tells search engines what the page is about, such as a sports location, its address, hours, courts, and events. This helps Google understand your listing and show more detailed search results.
How Search Engines Find Your Club
Search engines discover pages in three main ways, and CourtReserve sets up all three for you.
A clear web address: Your listing’s web address is built from your country, state, city, and club name, so search engines and players can tell what the page is about from the address alone.
Pages that link to each other: The CourtReserve Network is organized like a directory: all clubs, then state, then city, then your club. Sport pages are also included, such as “Pickleball courts in Jacksonville, Florida.” Your listing links to your programs, coaches, and nearby clubs, and those pages link back to your listing. Search engines follow these links from page to page, so every club is included.
A sitemap: A sitemap is a list of every page CourtReserve wants search engines to visit. The sitemap is published where search engines look for it and refreshes automatically throughout the day, so new programs and listing changes are picked up.
Every listing is a complete web page, so search engines see the same content players see. Listings are also available to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, which more players now use to find places to play.
Note: Private pages are never listed in search results. This includes login, account, booking checkout, and member-only pages. Only your public listing and public programs are listed.
When Your Club Shows Up in Search
CourtReserve only asks Google to list your club once your listing passes a quality check, which runs automatically for every club. Search engines evaluate a website as a whole, so empty or incomplete listings would lower search visibility for every club on the CourtReserve Network.
Requirement | Details | Where to Fix It |
Full address and map location | Your organization has a complete street address, city, and state
At least one racquet sport | Your club offers tennis, pickleball, padel, or squash
At least one photo | Upload your own photos so you choose what players see first
An About description in your own words | At least 80 characters and 12 words (about two sentences). Placeholder text like “coming soon” and text another club uses do not count.
A way for new players to book or join | Public Booking is turned on, or your club offers a membership open to the public
A real club name | Club names that include words like “test” or “demo” are treated as practice accounts and are not listed |
Note: A club with posted opening hours and four or more courts can pass the quality check without About text or Public Booking. Both are still recommended, since they help players decide to choose your club.
If your listing does not pass yet: Your listing still exists, and players can still reach it from the CourtReserve Network. CourtReserve asks search engines not to list it until it passes. Once you add the missing information, the change is picked up automatically.
Programs: Each upcoming program gets its own page that can appear in search results. Once a program has ended, its page is automatically removed from search results, so players do not land on past events.
Coaches: Instructors are listed once Show on CourtReserve Network is turned on in their Instructor Bio and their bio has at least 40 characters. To complete an instructor’s bio, see Step 3 in How to Make Your Club Stand Out on the CourtReserve Network™.
Improve How Your Listing Appears in Search
Most listing settings help in search, but these have the biggest effect on how your listing shows up in Google and AI assistants.
Lead your About text with your strongest sentence: The first sentences appear as the description under your club name in Google. Mention your town and your sports by name.
Use a full street address: A complete address places your club on the map for “near me” searches.
Keep programs on your calendar: Every upcoming clinic, open play session, league, and tournament is another page that can appear in search results.
Link to your listing from your website: Links from your website, social media, and newsletters signal to Google that your listing is trusted, which can help it rank higher.
For step-by-step setup of every listing setting, see the Network Settings article.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take for my club to show up on Google?
Google decides when to visit and list new pages, which usually takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Changes you make to your listing later are picked up the next time Google visits it.
Can CourtReserve guarantee my club a top spot in search results?
No. Google determines the order of search results, so no one can guarantee a ranking. A complete listing, upcoming programs, and links from your own website give your club the best chance.
Will my CourtReserve Network listing compete with my club’s website?
No. Your listing works like an entry in a trusted directory. It is one more place players can find your club, and it directs them to book with your club.
Is there a cost to be listed in search results?
No. Search listing is included with the CourtReserve Network.
Can I change the page title Google shows?
The page title is built automatically from your club name and city. To change it, update your club name or address in CourtReserve, and your listing updates to match.
How do I know if my listing passes the quality check?
Open your listing on the CourtReserve Network and compare it with the requirements table above. If every requirement is met, your listing is eligible to appear in search results.
Does member information appear on my listing?
No. Your listing shows only your club’s public information. Member names, contact details, and accounts are never displayed.
Do players need a CourtReserve account to view my listing?
No. Anyone can view your listing. Players log in or create an account when they book or register.
Can I keep my club out of search results?
Search listing is part of the CourtReserve Network, so the only way to keep your club out of search results is to remove your club from the CourtReserve Network entirely. This also removes your listing from the CourtReserve mobile app. To remove your club, navigate to Settings > Organization Settings > CourtReserve Network and turn off Show on CourtReserve Network. This setting applies per location, so organizations with more than one location turn it off for each one.
Once removed, your listing is taken out of the sitemap. Search engines remove pages on their own schedule, so it may take some time for your listing to stop appearing in Google search results.
