INTRODUCTION
Feature Summary: The Auto Pay Membership Dues setting within Integrated Payments controls whether memberships automatically enroll in recurring payments at checkout.
Use Cases: Clubs may choose different configurations depending on their billing policies:
Require all memberships to be on automatic recurring payments
Allow members to manually opt into Auto Pay
Keep membership billing manual while still using Integrated Payments
Transition from manual dues collection to automated recurring billing
Understanding how these settings impact the player experience is important before making changes.
OVERVIEW
There are two related settings under Settings > Billing Settings > Integrated Payments. Together, these settings determine whether recurring membership payments are automatically processed and whether players have control over opting into Auto Pay.
1. Auto Pay Membership Dues
When enabled, memberships purchased online are automatically set up for recurring payments using the player’s selected payment method. The player agrees to automatic recurring charges during checkout.
When disabled, memberships are still recurring based on the billing cycle, but players are not automatically enrolled in a stored Auto Pay method through this setting.
2. Prevent Players from Auto Pay Membership Dues Opt-In
This setting appears when Auto Pay Membership Dues is enabled.
When enabled, players cannot opt in to Auto Pay individually from the Member Portal when dues are posted to their account.
When disabled, players may opt in to Auto Pay from the Member Portal when membership dues are posted.
Player Experience: Auto Pay Membership Dues Disabled
When Auto Pay Membership Dues is disabled and Prevent Players from Auto Pay Membership Dues Opt-In is also disabled, here is how the membership purchase appears to a player:
Membership Selection
The player selects their membership (example shown: Membership – Tier 3) and clicks Review & Finalize.
They can see:
Membership name
Description
Pricing options
Pricing Option Selection
If multiple pricing options exist (for example monthly or annual price), the player will make a selection.
Membership Information
On the Review & Finalize page, the player sees:
Prorated amount (if applicable)
Prorated billing cycle dates
Next billing amount
Next billing cycle dates
Example shown:
Prorated Amount: $58.06
Next Billing Amount: $60.00
Next Billing Cycle: 4/1/2026 – 5/1/2026
This clearly communicates what is due today and what will be charged next cycle.
Payment Information
If the player has Account Credit, they will see:
Available account credit
Option to apply credit to the purchase
They then select a payment method (e.g., saved credit card).
Payment Summary
The summary includes:
Membership name with prorated label
Subtotal
Credit card convenience fee (if enabled)
Total amount due today
This provides full transparency before payment.
Agreement & Payment
At the bottom of checkout, the player must check the agreement box:
“I consent to automatic recurring charges for my membership dues until I cancel my membership.”
If they do not check the consent box, a warning message will display:
The player then clicks Pay to complete the purchase.
What the Player Sees After Paying for a Membership
Once the player completes their membership purchase, they are redirected to their Membership Details page in the Member Portal.
At the top of the page, the player sees:
Membership Name (e.g., Membership – Tier 3)
Membership Price (e.g., $60.00 / Month)
Last Billing Date (if applicable)
Next Billing Date (e.g., 4/1/2026)
The Next Billing Date reflects when the next recurring membership charge will be processed based on the billing cycle.
Auto Pay Option
Below the billing dates, the player sees the option: Enroll in Auto-Pay? with the description: “Please check the box to allow your membership dues to be automatically deducted from your billing profile.”
What This Means for the Player
If Auto Pay Membership Dues is disabled, the player must manually check this box to enroll in automatic payments.
If they do not check the box, future dues will post to their account and require manual payment.
If they check the box, future membership dues will automatically be charged to their saved billing method on file.
This gives the player control over whether they want recurring payments processed automatically.
Under Membership Billing, the player can see:
The current billing period (e.g., 3/2/2026 – 3/31/2026)
Billing frequency (Month)
Amount charged (e.g., $58.06 prorated)
Payment status (Paid with date confirmation)
This section provides a record of what has already been charged and confirms that the prorated amount was successfully processed.
When “Prevent Players from Auto Pay Membership Dues Opt-In” Is Enabled
If the Integrated Payments settings “Prevent Players from Auto Pay Membership Dues Opt-In” is enabled, the player will not see the “Enroll in Auto-Pay” option on their Membership Details page.
In this case, the Enroll in Auto-Pay? checkbox is hidden, and members cannot opt themselves into automatic recurring payments through the Member Portal.
Example shown below:
Player Experience: Auto Pay Membership Dues Enabled
How the Membership Purchase Screen Differs When Auto Pay Membership Dues Is Enabled
When Auto Pay Membership Dues is enabled in Integrated Payments, the player will see a similar screen flow as illustrated above, but the post-purchase experience changes slightly.
After completing payment, the player is redirected to their Membership Details page, where they will see the confirmation message: “By purchasing this membership, you agree to have your membership dues automatically debited.”
This confirms that:
The membership is automatically enrolled in recurring billing.
The payment method used at checkout will be charged on the next billing date.
No additional action is required from the player to activate Auto Pay.
In this configuration, Auto Pay is built into the membership purchase and does not require a separate opt-in step.
Summary
In short, disabling Auto Pay Membership Dues provides players with control over enrolling in automatic payments, while enabling Auto Pay Membership Dues builds recurring billing directly into the membership purchase process. If Auto Pay is disabled, the Prevent Players from Auto Pay Membership Dues Opt-In setting further determines whether players can manage Auto Pay themselves from the Member Portal.
