INTRODUCTION

Feature Summary: The Category Sales Report generates a table that summarizes Point of Sale sales by item category for a selected time period. It displays the number of items sold, net sales, taxes, gross sales, and profit by category.

This report provides a high-level view of sales performance without requiring review of individual transactions.

Use Cases: System users can use the Category Sales Report to:

  • Identify top-performing and underperforming item categories

  • Analyze sales trends over daily, monthly, quarterly, or annual periods

  • Compare category performance across time frames

  • Review profitability by product category

  • Support inventory planning and purchasing decisions


OVERVIEW

To run the Category Sales Report:

  1. Navigate to Point of Sale > Reports > Category Sales.
    ​

  2. Set the desired Start Date and End Date, or select a pre-built period (e.g., Current Month, Current Year).

  3. Leave Item Categories set to All to view all categories, or select one or more specific POS Item categories (e.g., Clothing, Food and Bev).
    ​

  4. The report table generates automatically based on the selected filters.

The table displays:

  • Category

  • Items Sold

  • Net Sales

  • Taxes

  • Gross Sales

  • Profit

This allows administrators to quickly evaluate overall sales performance by category for the selected period.

To download the results, click Export to generate an .xlsx file for further analysis or sharing.
